Hotel Blocks-Newport

ok, so i got a room block at two different hotels so far. The first one is the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown, RI (about 20 minutes from Castle Hill) The price for Thursday night is $149, Friday and Saturday night is $249 each. Their phone number is 1-800-333-4121. You have to mention the Hadad-Perro wedding to get the block. The second hotel is the Newport Beach Inns and Suites-it's right on the beach(about 2 miles from Castle Hill) and has a rooftop jacuzzi and stuff. They have a bunch of different prices for different rooms, but I made sure there were a variety of options including a few 2-bedroom suites availble for $249 on thursday night and $359 friday and saturday night so if 2 couples want to get them together, it gets a lot cheaper. Their phone number is 1-800-786-0310 and their website is http://www.newportbeachhotelandsuites.com/ in case you want to see the room layouts etc. Again, mention the Hadad-Perro Wedding. I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas!

Some good news...and more good news

So I have had a rather big week. I finished school this week, my graduation is tomorrow (saturday), but I'm not walking in the ceremony. Instead I will be elbow deep in flour and sugar with the fam as we are having a christmas cookie baking day. ALSO, I snuck into the New England area Thursday for a job interview in Barre, VT. It went very well, so well in fact that they offered me the job at the end of the interview. While I haven't actually accepted the job yet, I plan to on Monday. So it seems that in January I will be an official New Englander, haha. Anyway that's what I've been up to...

Halloween in Cincy

Well, it's a little late but thought you would get a kick out of seeing the Elmendorfs dressed up for Halloween. Katie went out as a black cat (her tag says 'if found, please return to George Clooney'); Piet and Lisa dressed as pirates. Megan and boyfriend dressed up as pumpkins - but I don't have a picture of that one!

All went well....

Everything was as expected... Her surgery went great.. "textbook" as Dr. Elias stated. Was just under an hour and in recovery. She looked great.
I got off the phone a few minutes ago with Neil, She feels good, had a little something to eat and they are now playing cards....
She should be back here tomorrow morning.

Prayers and good thoughts for "The Grande Dame"

Just to keep everyone up to date.. "The Grande Dame" Is going in for her Gallbladder surgery tomorrow, Friday morning at 11am... I have her OR suite all set... Hand picked her staff, She has the best of the best... And is in very good hands...
She is looking forward to moving on, getting her life back in order and getting to Florida where she is warm...! Not liking our weather here in Nov... Not sure why.... It's "quite warm" here IN the house.. Neil is at the controls of the woodstove... He's sweating his @$$ off and she has a fleece zipped up to her chin. As far as me... well my hot flashes have returned...
Anyhoo... She will be getting to the hospital by "ground chopper" with Captain Neil.., The weather is suggesting snow maybe.. But still, no need for an air helicopter!
Will update tomorrow night.

Winters Coming

Just thought you might like to know, winter in Maine is on the way. This was a hike Trish and I took Sunday, November 9th. East Baldpate and West Baldpate in Maine. Temperature 34 degrees, wind speed 5o mph, wind chill ??? I guess around 10-15 degrees. It was an OK hike though, with nicer snow on the pines in the woods. I was only real cold on top where there was no cover.

Big difference however down at the lean to half way down the mountain as you can see in the photo. 42 degrees there but the sun came out and was quite pleasant. Had a nice lunch at the lean-to before finishing the trip down.

Take care all,
Pete

Hi everyone!!!

So I'm sure you all know (because it seems everyone else knew this was coming except for me!*haha) Kevin proposed on Friday night at Ogunquit Beach...YAY! It was beautiful and so so romantic, and I was completely surprised. If you watch the video from that night, he is so nervous...cute!

Afterwards, he and I and lots of family/friends went drinking of course:) i'm posting a picture that Janelle took at the bar right when we got there.

We are thinking late next summer for a wedding date...of course i'm buying bridal magazines like a crazy lady and cannot focus at school at all...*smile*...

Hurricanes in Ohio

So about two weeks ago some wicked wind courtesy of Hurricane Ike came into the midwest. Almost a million people in just the Greater Cincinnati area lost power. Our house lost power for just over 100 hours, that is FIVE DAYS people. We were among the lucky with no damage to our home, and limited tree loss. The pictures below show that not everyone was so lucky, these were taken in our neighborhood as the wind died down.

Things I learned during the massive power outage....
- People go NUTS in grocery stores during any and all crises
- Society as a whole has an amazing capacity for patience, shown when EVERY traffic light turns into a four way stop
- Hanging out by candlelight is cool...for about an hour
-Once the sun goes down, sleep is really the only option
-Those people who go nuts in grocery stores aren't stupid they had ice and batteries for their flashlights, we had a variety of smelly candles
-Patience wears out after a couple days when all those people are taking cold showers and can't make coffee
-People are not smarter then the old days, we just don't have to study by candlelight
-You can cook ANYTHING on the grill
-Nobody but Bengals fans buy the idea that they would have won that game on a wind free day
-Do NOT avoid showers because you assume the water will be cold, sometimes you find that your water is gas heated (awesome!)
-Policemen get guns because they show amazing restraint to not shoot every idiot who thinks they are the only one having a bad week
-Anyone who thinks electricity is not a gift from God go a few days without a refrigerator, stove, tv, the internet or the ability to turn on a light on a whim.

Pete, Adam, & Dani

No posts since August 19th. What a boring family. Just wanted to let you know whats going on with the Adam, Dani, Pete group. Adam is in his new apartment in Merrimack and all seems to be going well, does not have his private helicopter license yet but he is very close.

Dani is back at school and in her third year, made Deans List last semester, and seems quite happy. She was able to bartend some this year at the Pier in OOB and loved it. The tips were good but I thought her choice of clothing was, well lets just say there was not a lot of cost in fabric. (Dad's point of view may differ from others).

As for me, just finished the last of the 14 Mountains in Maine over 4000 feet (and some that are on New Englands 100 Highest). Who knows what is next, maybe Vermont (they have five over 4000 ft), or maybe NH (Big Goal, they have 48). Work is good, life is fun, and Trish is still putting up with me, not a bad combination.

Take care all,
Pete
