So I have taken up a new hobby. I have decided and gotten into geocaching. I've been wanting to do it for a while but I got a GPS just recently and I have been figuring out all the stuff it does and having fun with it. It was a gorgeous day on friday so I went out with a friend and found 2 in the University forest. It took us four hours of hiking around but we had a blast. I know there's a handful up by camp. Has anyone found them? Has anyone else done much or any geocaching?

The long and short of it is a process of using army satelites and a GPS system to hike through the woods locating 'treasure chests' of sorts. There's a handful of etiquette rules to follow but most of them are common sence. The most fun is just finding them... they are often hid pretty well (the one in the tree was a solid 15 feet over my head so if I wasn't looking up. I would have missed it entirely... the other one was hidden in a brush pile covered by a big piece of bark.) The caches are varying sizes and shapes...some are as large as .50 caliber ammo boxes, or tupperware containers and still others are as small as a film container. The larger caches have items in them and you take take/leave an item if you wish. If you take something you are supposed to leave something too. But they all have a logbook where you sign (generally using the screen name that a person uses on geocaching.com) and date. Its fun.... and PS I'm totally game for finding the ones up by camp this summer. I dont know when I'll be up there but if any one's around when I am you are welcome to join me.

they say the size right on the size of the box, but they also sell both 50 cal and 30 cal boes specifically for this purpose.
